What a difference a year makes. After finishing the 2016-2017 season with an overall record of (3 – 29), there was not a lot of optimism for the North Carolina A&T Men’s Basketball Team coming into the 2017-2018 season.
The Aggies were predicted to finish dead last in the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
Many people say that losing is contagious and a lot of experts expected the Aggies to carry over their losing ways from the previous season. However, at just over the midway point in the season North Carolina A&T has the best overall record in the MEAC (14-9) and is currently one game behind Savannah State for the lead in the conference.
One of the key components for the turnaround this season has been the Aggies defense. They currently have the number 2 scoring defense in the MEAC and also have the number 2 defensive rebounding team.
But not only have the Aggies been able to play good defense but they have also been able to play well on the other end of the court. The Aggies have the number 4 scoring offense in the conference and also have the number 2 ranked field goal percentage in the MEAC.
Just last week on January 27th, the Aggies were able to capture a huge win over their rival North Carolina Central at home in a miraculous 17 point comeback.
Senior forward Denzel Keys led the way for the Aggies as he had 20 points off the bench.
The Aggies are on pace for a 20-win season but they still have a lot of games left to be played this season. They will look to continue their success as they try to capture their first MEAC title since 2013, which was also the year the Aggies got their last NCAA tournament victory.
